Valerie Mendoza
Valerie Mendoza (she/her) is a Twin Cities-based meetings, trade shows, and events professional with more than 20 years of experience planning and managing events for nonprofit associations, healthcare organizations, and corporate clients. Her career has included everything from smaller gatherings to large-scale national and international conferences and trade shows with thousands of attendees.
Valerie has always been drawn to work that brings people together—creating meaningful experiences, connecting professionals and organizations, and supporting the missions of the organizations she works with. She brings a detail-driven, collaborative approach to her work, stays calm when the unexpected happens, and is always willing to step in wherever she is needed. Her association experience has also given her a strong appreciation for the role nonprofits play in building communities and creating opportunities for people to connect and learn.
In 2019, Valerie became seriously ill with sepsis, ultimately requiring the amputation of her right lower leg. After months of recovery, rehabilitation, and learning to walk again with a prosthetic, she learned to embrace her “new normal” with the support of an amazing network of family, friends, and community. The experience gave Valerie a new appreciation for fully living life and not taking things for granted, while reminding her of the importance of perseverance, connection, and making the most of every opportunity.
Outside of work, Valerie is a Scrabble fiend, enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time with family and friends, exploring the Twin Cities, and finding opportunities to travel and experience new places. She is excited to bring her experience, perspective, and collaborative spirit to the committee.
